How do I call off campus?

When placing a call off campus you must dial 9 before the number.

Examples:

  • 9-xxx-xxxx       Any local number
  • 9-xxx-xxxx + PBN       Long distance in the 315 area code
  • 9-1-8xx-xxx-xxxx       Toll free calls
  • 9-1-xxx-xxx-xxxx + PBN       Number outside the 315 area code
  • 9-011-xxx-xx-xxx-xxxx + PBN + # (pound sign)       International calls
  • When your PBN is needed you will hear a tone after the number has been dialed. Enter your 6 digit PBN and the call will dial.

If you use a calling card for a long distance call you must dial 9 and then the card number.
Follow the card instructions to complete the call. Local Exchanges for Keuka College are:

  • area code 315: 227, 270, 279, 531, 536, 595, 694, 890
  • area code 607: 243

What is a PBN (authorization code)?

PBN = long distance authorization code.

  • You will need a PBN to dial long distance.
  • If you do not have a PBN or you have forgotten it, please visit IT Services with your ID.
  • We use your PBN to generate your telephone bills. It is not advisable to share this code.
  • Do not make your PBN a speed dial number on your telephone.
  • You are liable for all calls made using your PBN.
  • If you choose not to use your Keuka College Long Distance, please visit ITS with your ID to de-activate your PBN.

How do I set up or change my voice mail greeting?

When accessing your voice mail box for the first time you will not need a personal security code.

  • To set up your new voice mail, dial 6000, from your phone.
  • The system will ask you to say your name. Speak clearly and say both your first and last name.
  • You will be prompted to enter your personal security code.
  • You will be prompted to say your greeting and if you want to review.
  • When the voice attendant asks you a question, you can press 3 to hear help menu options.

If you are prompted to enter a personal security code when setting up your voice mail for the first time, someone previously owned your extension (i.e., recent room change). Call ITS at ext. 5217 to have it reset.

I am having trouble with my phone, what do I do?

Try these trouble shooting tips before you call our office:

  • Try another phone in your phone jack to determine if it is the phone or the phone line.
  • Check the cable that connects your phone to the wall - is it loose or appear broken?
  • If you are still having trouble, please call extension 5217.

Cordless phones will work on campus, but depending on traffic you may get static or call overlap.

Keuka College does not supply you with a phone. We will, however, help you in determining if your phone is defective.

If lightning strikes near campus, it can enter through the telephones lines. It is not a good idea to be using the phone during a storm that produces lightning.
