Instructional Design Director – Center for Professional Studies and International Programs

 General Responsibilities:

The Instructional Design Director leads the process of working with faculty and instructors to design and develop teaching and learning environments that emphasize active learning and incorporate appropriate instructional technologies. This position leads a team of other designers and instructional support specialists located at the Center for Professional Studies and International Programs.

 Provide consulting and design services to faculty and instructors in the development of effective teaching and learning strategies for face-to-face, blended, and online learning environments including the design and development of online courses using an andragogy based model.  

Prepare and present faculty seminars and workshops and provide consulting services to faculty on course design, web course development, and instructional software.  

 Specific Responsibilities:

·        Designs and develops courses and learning material that support course needs.

·        Researches instructional material needs for courses already established but identified as needing change and updates.

·        Assists with the coordination and implementation of new initiatives, including material development, content delivery and progress tracking.

·        Assists in assessing quality and adoption of course material.

·        Reviews and revises learning materials (expert level MS PowerPoint, MS Word, and online training tools.).

·        Plans, coordinates and staffs long and short-term projects as well as needs assessments.

·        Develops recommendation for instructional strategies.

·        Schedules and coordinates workflow of staff, including establishing priorities for vendors.

·        Assists in design of instructor and end-user learning materials.

·        Designs, develops, and authors interactive and engaging eLearning and blended instructional materials. 

·        Collaborates with faculty on the creation of new courses and adaptation of existing courses for the online or blended environment. 

·        Participates in opportunities for continued learning and professional development for instructors. 

·        Provides trainings and mentorship to instructors regarding the course management system. 

·        Collaborates with Moodle system administrator and technical support staff to ensure the delivery of online and blended courses. 

·        Assists in the development and review of policies and administrative procedures pertaining to online courses, blended courses, and educational outreach in general. 

·        Meets other instructional needs as directed by the Director of Instruction, CPSIP.

 Qualifications:

·        Masters degree in instructional technology, educational technology, instructional design or related field.

·         5+ years of progressive experience in developing training or higher education courses for adult learners.

·         Advanced knowledge of instructional design principles including learning theories, instructional models, motivational techniques, and instructional strategies.

·         Professional experience in instructional design in a higher education environment.

·         Experience in assessing and developing effective web-based instructional content.

·         Experience using a course management system (Moodle preferred).

·         Experience in training others to effectively develop and use instructional technologies.

·         Work collaboratively in a values-based higher education environment.

·        Ability to work with faculty from a variety of subject areas.  

·        Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to work with diverse groups of people utilizing computer/ web based instruction.

·        Able to demonstrate a high level of conceptual thinking to participate in the development, revision, and evaluation of course materials.

·        Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate standards and instructional design principles, policies, and procedures.

·        A working knowledge of web-based software packages such as: Visio, Flash, Photoshop.

·        Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects with varying priorities.

 This is a full-time Administrative (Exempt) position in the Center for Professional Studies and International Programs division.  The Instructional Design Director reports directly to the Director of Instruction (CPSIP).
