Part-Time
Sign Language Interpreter
General
Responsibilities:
As needed: Provide sign language
interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing faculty, staff, and
students. Serve as a liaison between the hearing impaired and hearing
communities.
Specific
Responsibilities:
·
Perform effective sign
language interpreting and transliterating services for faculty, staff
and students and according to accepted American Sign Language/English
interpreting procedures.
·
Provide sign language
interpreting services in an educational setting for faculty, staff, and
students including interpreting for lectures, labs, seminars,
individualized instruction sessions, meetings, appointments, and exams.
·
As needed: Provide
interpreting services for college-hosted activities such as
convocations, commencements, orientations, and lecture series.
Qualifications:
·
Bachelor’s degree in
related field.
·
Possession of an
appropriate and valid certification issued by:
National Association of the deaf (NAD)
(Level 4/5)
or
National Registry of Interpreters for
the deaf (RID) (CI&AT)
or
NAD-RID National Interpreter
Certification (NIC)
(Advanced/Master)
·
Code of ethics for the
Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
·
Ability to communicate
effectively to the deaf and hearing impaired using American Sign
Language.
·
Higher education
experience preferred including knowledge of the deaf culture and the
issues faced by college students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
