How do I know if I have a credit deficit?

When you initially applied for admission, your transcripts were evaluated by the enrollment coordinators for your program.  This was your preliminary evaluation for admission to the program.  Once you began the program, your transcripts were then reviewed by the registrar’s office for a final evaluation.  In both instances, you should have received a copy of this evaluation.  It will tell you if you have met all of the requirements of the degree program in which you registered.

Why do I have a credit deficit?

In New York State to obtain a Bachelor's degree, you need to have completed 120 credits.  Keuka College is a liberal arts based academic institution, therefore you need 50% of those credits to be liberal arts.  Each program has a core curriculum that needs to be met which consists of the following 28 liberal art credits:

-Freshman English (3 credits)
-Mathematics (3 credits)
-Natural Science with a lab (4 credits)
-Social Sciences (9 credits)
-Humanities (9 credits)

Some of the core curriculum are satisfied through the major requirements.  Each program has within it a varying number of liberal arts credits, which alters the number of additional liberal art credits that are required.

What online courses are available?

Every semester online courses are offered to current Keuka College students. These courses are made possible through a consortium agreement with the OCICU (Online Consortium of Independent Colleges and Universities). These courses are delivered by our partner schools, and appear on your transcript as Keuka College courses. There is no need to submit a “non-Keuka Coursework Approval” form for these courses. Tuition and billing will come from Keuka College. Books are the responsibility of the students who choose to take an online course.

How do I know if an online course is right for me?

Online courses can be great alternatives for busy students, eliminating the need to physically attend class each week while still providing an environment for interaction with the instructor and other students. If this is your first experience with an online course, you may be wondering if this is the appropriate learning environment for you. Your response to the following statements may assist in self-selecting the best option to meet your learning objectives.

• I have access to both a computer and the internet.
• I am comfortable using the computer and the internet.
• I can easily understand directions when they are given to me.
• I have good time management skills.

What is a CLEP Exam?

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) helps students earn credit for what they already know, regardless of how that knowledge was acquired. CLEP exams test mastery of college-level material acquired in a variety of ways—through general academic instructions, significant independent study, or extracurricular work. CLEP exam-takers include adults just entering or returning to school, military service members, and traditional-age college students. Where can I take a CLEP Exam?

CLEP Exams can be taken at numerous testing locations. To find the testing center nearest to you, go to http://apps.collegeboard.com/cbsearch_clep/searchCLEPTestCenter.jsp.  To schedule an exam at Keuka College, call your Credit Advisement Manager.

What is a “cross-over” course?

A “cross-over” course is a course that is outside of your registered program that is a part of another Keuka College ASAP program. You can register to take a course with a different cohort, in a different program to complete your credits. These courses are the same accelerated format that you are accustomed to, at a location close to home. Contact your Credit Advisement manager for more information.

What is a bridge course?

A “Bridge” course is a Keuka College delivered course that will help satisfy your degree requirements. They are delivered in the accelerated format that you are use to, at a location convenient to you. These courses are offered on an “as-needed” basis throughout the academic year. Contact your Credit Advisement Manager for more information.

Can I take courses at a community college?

You can complete any of your outstanding credits at any institution that is accredited. All of our partner schools are accredited. If you choose to take your courses at an institution other than Keuka College, you are required to submit a request for approval from the Keuka College registrar’s office. The “Non-Keuka Coursework Approval” form is used to ensure that the course that you are interested in will satisfy the degree requirements that you are deficient.
