Keuka College and DeSales High School in Geneva are private institutions. But the connection doesn’t end there. The College and DeSales recently established a scholarship program that rewards academically talented DeSales seniors who elect to attend Keuka. The College will award five, $1,250 scholarships to DeSales students every year. The scholarships are good for up to four years of undergraduate study, meaning each carries a value of $5,000. “We wanted to do something to show our support for DeSales High School,” said Executive Vice President Carolanne Marquis. |
“We are excited to be able to help DeSales students and acknowledge their academic achievement.” Teachers, the principal or guidance counselors at DeSales will nominate students who will have to apply and be admitted to Keuka College to receive the funds. |

Local artist Helene Oldweiler uses clay as a medium for breaking down barriers and opening the lines of comunication in order to bridge generation gaps. Earlier this month, she conducted a workshop at Keuka College where students and teenagers from the Dundee Area Youth Center worked together with clay in order to get to know each other. The participants discussed the differences between high school and college and by the end of the workshop some friendships were made. Oldweiler will conduct another workshop at the Dundee Area Youth Center Nov. 20 and some Keuka students plan to attend. |
