The Start of Something Big

08/28/2009

The Class of 2013 has arrived.

That's right, freshmen moved in Wednesday with the help of a group of current students called Welcome Jacks. After getting settled into their new digs, the freshmen said goodbye to their moms and dads and prepared for their first night on campus.

Transition Week continues through Sunday. The newcomers will find out how to land a work-study job, meet their advisers, learn about the computer network, take part in a team-building exercise at the ropes course, and enjoy shows by a comedian, mind reader, and magician, among other things.

The Class of 2013 will be officially welcomed to campus Tuesday, Sept. 1 at academic convocation.

The ceremony begins at 4:15 p.m. in Norton Chapel.

Tim Sellers, professor of biology and environmental science, and the 2008-09 Professor of the Year, will address the new students. The event will also feature remarks by Christopher Iversen, chair of the Board of Trustees, and President Joseph G. Burke.

Fall semester classes get under way Monday, Aug. 31.
