Sackets Harbor Resident Courtney Allen Selected Keuka College Experiential Learner of the Month

KEUKA PARK, N.Y.—Courtney Allen, a resident of Sackets Harbor and a senior at Sackets Harbor Central School, received Keuka College’s Experiential Learner of the Month Award for January.

Keuka, the national leader in experiential, hands-on learning, established the program to honor high school students whose commitment to experiential, hands-on learning has made a difference in their communities.

Allen will receive a partial academic fellowship to Keuka and qualify for the Experiential Learner of the Year Award, which carries a full academic fellowship to the College.

Allen was nominated for the award by Ryan Tastor, a guidance counselor at Sackets Harbor.

“Courtney is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and won department awards in English, math, and social studies during her freshman year,” said Tastor.

She shares her knowledge and passion for Spanish by serving as a tutor for seventh and eight grade students at the school.

Allen has given her time and talents to many community service projects, including walks for multiple sclerosis and cystic fibrosis. In addition, she serves as a lecturer at St. Andrew’s and St. Elizabeth’s churches.

The Experiential Learner of the Month Award-winner is featured on television stations throughout central, western, and northern New York state, as well as the Southern Tier.

The participating stations include WTVH, Channel 5, Syracuse (CBS); WHAM, Channel 13, Rochester (ABC); WKBW, Channel 7, Buffalo (ABC); WWNY, Channel 7, Watertown (CBS); and WBNG, Channel 12, Binghamton (CBS).

Keuka College is the national leader in experiential, hands-on learning.
