Learning Opportunities
Keuka College’s commitment to experiential learning extends to its Accelerated Studies for Adults Program (ASAP).
The impact of experiential learning is more immediate for adult students, who take classes one evening per week. They take what they learn in class and apply it to their jobs the next day.
Learning in the ASAP classroom is enhanced by the hands-on experiences of the students, who offer real-world insight into topics raised in textbooks and by faculty members.
The ASAP bachelor’s degree programs in organizational management and criminal justice systems and the master’s degree offerings in management and criminal justice administration feature an Action Research Project. It fulfills the Field Period requirement, mandatory for all Keuka students, and applies to what the student is doing at work or to another of his/her interests.
Students research a subject and then take action, such as designing a newsletter to improve office communication. For his Action Research Project, Steve Isaacs, economic developer for the Yates County Industrial Development Agency, surveyed business owners and Yates County officials to find out what is needed to attract and retain businesses.
Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing are required to complete a Field Period and those enrolled in the ASAP bachelor’s in social work program complete a mandatory senior practicum, as do those enrolled in the traditional social work program.
