Cookerly and Crowder Named All-Collegiate
The Keuka College synchronized
swimming team finished seventh at the US National meet held at Ohio State
University over the weekend. Keuka, who finished sixth last season,
remaining the top division III school in the nation.
Stanford University (94) won for
the fourth consecutive year and were followed by the
Buckeyes of Ohio State (87). Local rival Canisius College finished
third (70), up two spots from last season. The University of
Incarnate Word (65) and the University of Alabama-Birmingham (56.5)
finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The University of Arizona
(44) was the team that snuck ahead of the Storm and claimed the sixth
spot. Keuka ended with a score of 39.5 to finishing seventh.
Rounding out the top ten were Wheaton College (37), the University of
Florida (36), and the University of Michigan (26.5).
Keuka was led by its two
returning All-Collegiate performers Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg,
IN/Brownsburg) and Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban
Girls College). The pair were both awarded All-Collegiate status
again this year for their performances.
Cookerly finished eighth
in the solo routine with a score of 84.667 while Crowder placed
tenth with a 83.167. The two scores helped garner seven total points
for the Storm.
The
pair also teamed with junior teammate Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport,
N.Y./Fairport) to post the ninth best trio. The three swimmers
recorded a final score of 84.833.
Keuka's team routine was good
enough for eighth with a score of 80.333, giving Cookerly and
Crowder three top ten performances. They were joined by
Kaminska, Felicia Lenzo (Endicott,
N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic), and Tracy Ringel (Columbia,
MD/Atholton).
Crowder posted the teams
best "A" figures score of 74.969, good enough for 29th overall out of 53.
Kaminska score of 66.687 in "B" figures landed her in 22nd place
out of 46 swimmers. Lojo finished eighth in "C" figures with
a score of 64.660, beating 28 other swimmers. The Storm finished
with three swimmers in the top ten in "D" figures. Led by Lenzo
in sixth place (61.036). Sophomore Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis)
placed eighth (60.415) while senior Adriana Riano (Rochester,
N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) ended ninth (60.062).

Capture 2nd at ECAC Championships
Finish Second out of Six Teams
The Keuka College synchro team
placed second at the ECAC Championships held at the College of William &
Mary on Saturday and Sunday. Canisius College took home the ECAC
crown
with a score of 102. Well ahead of Keuka (77) in second.
Finishing behind the Storm were Wheaton College (75), William & Mary (73),
University of Pennsylvania (57.5), and Wellsley College (7).
Guiding the Storm to the second
place finish were its two soloist in junior Corenn Cookerly
(Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) and sophomore Shannon Crowder (Durban,
South Africa/Durban Girls College). The two finished second and
fourth, respectively, to earn 21 total points for Keuka. Cookerly
scored an 83.667 while Crowder posted a 82.500.
Keuka also received 24 total
points from its two teams fourth and sixth place finishes. Keuka's
top team of Cookerly,
Crowder, Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), Felicia Lenzo (Endicott,
N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic), and Tracy Ringel (Columbia,
MD/Atholton) tallied a score of 81.167. The Storm's "B" team of
Samantha
Johnston (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland), Shannon O'Donnell
(Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis),
Adriana Riano (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta), and Sarah
Silverman (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) finished with a 70.583.
Keuka's duet of Kaminska
and Ringel placed fifth with a 75.000 with the top duet from Canisius
posting a score of 94.500. The Storm's trio of Cookerly,
Crowder, and Kaminska finished in third place (84.333) just a
few points behind the top Canisius trio (86.500).
In figures, Crowder and
Cookerly placed third and fourth in the "A" figures.
Kaminska took third place out of 15 swimmers in "B" figures while
Lojo placed fourth in "C" figures. Reed and Lenzo
finished fourth and fifth, respectively in "D" figures.
The Storm will next compete in
the US Nationals at Ohio State University on March 26-29.

Storm Take
Second at East Regionals
All Four Routines Qualify for Nationals
The Synchro team took second out
of seven teams at the East Regional Championships hosted by Canisius
College on Saturday and Sunday. The Storm finished with a score of
80, behind only Canisius (100). Finishing behind the Storm were
Wheaton College(77), Boston University (57), University of Pennsylvania
(56), Penn State University (54), and M.I.T. (41.5).
Keuka took second in the "A"
figures as well as the team and trio routines. Canisius swept all
four routines as well as "A" figures. Needing to place in the top
three in order to qualify for Nationals, Keuka had all four of its
routines qualify, including two soloists.
Junior Corenn Cookerly
(Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) and sophomore Shannon Crowder (Durban,
South Africa/Durban Gils College) both finished in third place in the
solo routine with a score of 85.667. The duo were bested only by
Canisius' two Russian swimmers.
Cookerly and Crowder
then teamed up as an honorary duet and finished in third place (84.333) to
also qualify as a duet. Keuka's other duet of Tracy Ringel
(Columbia, MD/Atholton) and Brianne Lojo (Westfield,
NJ/Union Catholic) placed fourth with a score of 76.000.
Keuka's trio came the closest to
winning, as they finished in second place behind a Canisius trio.
Cookerly, Crowder, and Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport,
N.Y./Fairport) ended with an
84.667
while Canisius posted a score of 87.500.
The Storm's top team of
Cookerly, Crowder, Kaminska, Felicia Lenzo (Endicott,
N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Lojo, and Ringel tied for second with
Wheaton's team (83.500). Keuka's "B" team placed sixth (70.333).
In the elements portion of the
competition, Keuka had a swimmer finish in second or third in three of the
four groups. Crowder led the way in "A" figures with a third
place finish (83.993). barely edging out teammate Cookerly
(83.839). In "B" figures, Kaminska placed second with a
72.852, not even a full point behind the winner from Canisius. In
"D" figures, Keuka had two swimmers place in the top five out of 30
swimmers. Sophomore Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis)
placed third (57.604) while senior Adriana Riano (Rochester,
N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) took fifth (56.839), respectively.
The Storm will next compete in
the ECAC Championships at William & Mary (Virginia) on March 22-23.

Gardner Crowned
Keuka Athletes of the Week
Synchronized swimmer
Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban Girls College) and
women’s hoop star Pam Gardner (Caledonia, N.Y./Caledonia-Mumford)
were both named Keuka College Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb.
17.
Crowder, ninth in
the nation in the solo routine, led the Storm to a third place finish and
a second place finish in the Storm’s two competitions against nationally
ranked teams. In the Keuka Invitational, which featured No. 2 Ohio State
University, No. 5 Canisius College, and No. 8 Wheaton College, Crowder
took third place in the solo, trio, and team routines while claiming fifth
place out of 15 swimmers in the “A” figures. The following day,
Crowder finished runner-up to a Buckeye swimmer (86.750-to-85.250) in
the solo routine while taking third in the trio and team routines again.
Gardner, just 29
points away from 1,000 for her career, led the Storm to a 1-1 week while
averaging 17.5 points and 7 rebounds. Gardner finished with 20
points and eight rebounds in Keuka’s last minute loss to SUNY Cortland.
She followed that up with 15 points and six rebounds in the Storm’s win
over Baptist Bible College. Gardner shot 64% from the floor while
hitting 2-of-3 3-point attempts. For the season, she is averaging 12.5
points and 7.6 rebounds, both team-highs.

Keuka Tri-Meet
Storm Finish Second
The Keuka College synchronized
swimming team finish second out of three teams at the Keuka College
tri-meet on Sunday. The No. 2 ranked Buckeyes swept all four
routines to finish with a score of 86 and win the competition. Keuka
(72) was followed by Wheaton College (48).
Keuka's Shannon Crowder
(Durban, South Africa/Durban Girls College) enjoyed her second
straight big day as she finished second in the solo routine with a score
of 85.250. Crowder finished just a point behind Ohio State's
Hilary Deason. In third place was Keuka's
Corenn
Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) with a 84.750.
Keuka's duo of Jennifer
Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Brianne Lojo (Westfield,
NJ/Union Catholic) placed third (82.250) behind a duo from Ohio State
(87.500) and Wheaton (83.500).
The Buckeyes claimed the top two
spots in the trio with Keuka's Cookerly, Crowder, and
Kaminska taking third with an 85.750.
The Storm's "A" team grabbed
third place while its "B" team took fourth. Ohio State won with an
89.750 while Wheaton took second with a 84.750. Keuka's top
consisting of Cookerly,
Crowder, Kaminska, Lojo, and Tracy Ringel (Columbia,
MD/Atholton) ended with an 84.000. The Storm's "B" team of
Samantha
Johnston (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland), Felicia Lenzo (Endicott,
N.Y./Maine-Endwell), Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis),
Adriana Riano (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta), and Sarah
Silverman (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) finished with a score of 71.750.
The Storm will next compete in
the East Regionals at Canisius College on March 8-9.

Third at Keuka Invite
Canisius Sweeps Routines; Wins
The Storm synchro team placed
third out of four teams at the Keuka College Invitational at the Ayers
Pool on Saturday. With four of the top eight teams in the nation
competing, it was the No. 5 Golden Griffins of Canisius College who won
the invite with a score of 98. The No. 2 Buckeyes of Ohio State
University, who were without its top swimmers, placed second with an 84.
Followed by Keuka (77) and Wheaton College (66).
The Golden Griffins won all four
routines and two of the four figures. Ohio State and Wheaton each
won one of the figures.
The day started with "A" figures
which was won by Natalie Tarasova of Canisius College (91.745).
Keuka's Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban Girls College)
took fifth out of 15 swimmers with a score of 81.468.
"B" figures went to the Buckeyes
who claimed the top two spots. Keuka junior Jennifer Kaminska
(Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) finished sixth out of 17 with a 71.595.
With only five swimmers
competing in "C" figures, the top honor went to Charlotte Gorski of
Canisius. Keuka's Felicia Lenzo (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell)
placed fourth (65.342).
Wheaton's Jenna Calvino,
a pupil of new head coach Rebecca Story, took the top honor in "D"
figures. Story, a 2006 graduate of Keuka and one of the
Storm's top swimmers in program history, is in her first year at Wheaton.
The Storm claimed the next six spots in "D" figures led by sophomore
Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis) in second place (60.008).
The routines were kicked off with the trio which was won
by the Golden Griffins Laurie Wakelam, Nicole Cardinale, and
Courtney Christman (88.000). The Storm's trio of Corenn
Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg), Crowder, and Kaminska
finished third
with
an 85.500.
Canisius had the top two duets while Keuka's Tracy
Ringel (Columbia, MD/Atholton) and Brianne Lojo (Westfield,
NJ/Union Catholic) finished in fifth place with a score of 81.167,
respectively.
Crowder's score of 86.167 was good enough for
third place in the solo routine while Cookerly took fourth with a
85.833.
Keuka's "A" team, consisting of Cookerly,
Crowder, Kaminska, Lojo, and Ringel, posted a
score of 85.917 to finish third while Canisius won with a 94.333.
The Storm will again play host to Ohio State and Wheaton
this Sunday, Feb. 17, competing in just routines beginning at 11 am.

Athlete of the Week Honors
Banks Named NEAC Athlete of the Week
Three Keuka College
standout athletes shared Athlete of the Week honors for the week ending
Feb. 9, 2008. Raquan Banks (Newark, NJ/Schenectady), Jennifer
Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), and Melissa Thurston (Batavia,
N.Y./Batavia) all helped the Storm win big games this past week.
Banks, a rookie
on the Storm’s 7-13 men’s hoops squad, led the Storm to a 3-0 week in NEAC
conference action. He averaged 20.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5 assists, 2
steals, and 1.7 blocks a game. Banks netted a game-high 27 points
in the Storm’s win at Penn State-Harrisburg and followed that up with a
21-point, 9-assist performance in Keuka’s win over Cazenovia. The forward
currently leads the Storm in scoring (17.6), assists (3.6), steals (2.1),
and blocks (1.1) and is second on the team in 3-pointers (2) and third in
rebounding (5.7). Banks was also named NEAC Athlete of the Week
this week.
NEAC Athlete of the Week
Kaminska, a
junior star on the Storm’s synchronized swimming team, helped guide the
Storm to a win over Penn State University and the University of
Pennsylvania. Kaminska and a teammate finished first in the duet
routine and was also apart of the Storm’s trio and team routines that both
took home first place honors. She also swam to a first place finish in
“B” figures. Kaminska and the rest of her team will be hosting
Ohio State University, Canisius College, and Wheaton College this Saturday
and Sunday, Feb. 16-17.
Thurston, a
sophomore on Keuka’s 12-7 women’s basketball team, led the Storm to a 2-1
week while averaging five steals a game. To go along with her excellent
defense, she averaged 7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. But
Thurston presence was felt on the defensive side of the court as she
helped hold opponents to just 32, 65, and 41 points. The guard leads the
team with 38 steals on the season.

Storm Win
Own Tri-Meet
Defeat Univ. of Penn & Penn State
The synchronized swimming team
won its own tri-meet as they defeated the visiting Quakers of the
University of Pennsylvania and the Nittany Lions of Penn State University
at the Ayers Pool on Saturday. Keuka finished with a score of 100
while Penn took second with a 77, followed
by Penn State (66.5).
Keuka swept all four routines
and won three of the four figures as they easily won. The Storm were
led by junior Corenn Cookerly (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) who
narrowly defeated teammate Shannon Crowder (Durban, South Africa/Durban
Girls College) to take first place in the solo routine. Cookerly
finished with a score of 88.000 while Crowder posted an 87.500.
The Storm's duo of junior
Jennifer Kaminska (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and rookie Tracy Ringel
(Columbia, MD/Atholton) defeated the University of Pennsylvania's top
duo by almost four points (83.500-80.000) to claim first place.
Cookerly, Crowder,
and Kaminska then teamed up to win the trio routine by almost 20
points (84.250-65.000).
Cookerly, Crowder,
Kaminska, Brianne Lojo (Westfield, NJ/Union Catholic), and
Ringel secured the routine sweep for the Storm by dominating the
team routine. Keuka ended with a score of 86.750 while Penn State's
team came in second with a 77.250. Keuka's "B"
team
claimed third place (73.750) ahead of Penn's team.
The Storm were equally as
dominant in the figures portion of the event winning three of the four.
Crowder won "A" figures (86.201) while Cookerly took second
(84.796). Kaminska, Ringel, and Lojo claimed
the top three spots in "B" figures, respectively. Rookie Felicia
Lenzo (Endicott, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) took second (65.079) in "C"
figures behind Penn's Pamela Hughes (65.488). In "D" figures,
sophomore Megan Reed (Glenfield, N.Y./South Lewis) defeated the 17
other swimmers with a score of 62.405.
Keuka will next play host to
Ohio State University, Canisius College, and Wheaton College this
Saturday, Feb. 16 in the Keuka College Invitational. On Sunday, Feb.
17, the Storm will take on Ohio State and Wheaton again.

Share Athlete of the Week Honors
Corenn Cookerly
(Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) and Forest Woodley (Seattle,
WA/Mariner) were both named Keuka College Athletes of the Week for the
week ending Feb. 2.
Cookerly, a
junior captain of the Storm’s No. 6 nationally ranked synchronized
swimming team, performed very well in Keuka’s second place finish at the
Canisius College Invitational. The Storm’s score of 75 placed behind the
No. 5 Golden Griffins (88) but ahead of Wheaton College (45). Cookerly
swam to a second place finish in the solo routine with a score of 87.167
while also taking second in the trio (85.167). Keuka’s team routine,
which she is a member of, was also second with a score of 85.167.
Cookerly has been a two-time All-Collegiate performer and a two-time
Academic All-American.
Woodley, a senior
on the Storm’s men’s basketball team, posted two double-doubles in Keuka’s
1-1 week. In the Storm’s 70-66 loss to Keystone, the power forward
collected game-highs in both points (21) and rebounds (13) while going
9-for-14 from the floor. He followed that up with a 13-point, 11-rebound
performance in the Storm’s 96-91 overtime win over Penn State-Berks.
Woodley is averaging 11.2 points and 7.9 rebounds on the season.
