General education courses are the foundation of every Keuka College bachelor’s degree. You’ll explore and enhance many different skills — writing, math, ethics, and other disciplines — that are important for your management degree and for everyday life. You can choose from a number of online courses in the Keuka College catalog, or transfer in credits from another accredited college or university, the U.S. military, college-level testing programs, or select international sources.

These courses will introduce you to the latest theories and principles in management, leadership, marketing, human resources, finance, accounting, organizational communication, and organizational dynamics. You’ll be exposed to perspectives on those topics from the humanities and social and behavioral sciences. Through your capstone course, you’ll work closely with extraordinary faculty who are outstanding teachers and working professionals.

Electives will give you the opportunity to learn about the topics you’re interested in most and customize your degree if you need additional credits outside of your OM core, general education, and transfer credits.

Core Courses

The Organizational Management curriculum is full of opportunities for collaboration, personal growth, leadership development, and research. You’ll gain critical thinking skills and real-world experience, all with a solid integration of international business principles.

Together with a capstone course in which you’ll combine everything you’ve learned with skills you’ve acquired in previous work experience and Field Period®, you’ll put together a business plan of your own. When you graduate, you can be confident you have the skills and connections you need to achieve your personal and professional goals.

BUS-301: Introduction to Business Research

This course will serve as an introduction to the rationale and procedures of business research. While emphasizing business writing skills, topics will include: nature and purposes of research; access and library research tools for bricks and mortar and online resources and methods necessary for application in the business environment. Students will develop critical skills needed as consumers and producers of research. By the end of the course, students will have the following knowledge and skills: 1. Knowledge of how to engage in independent research that is pertinent to his or her career. The independent research is to be carried out in the library and through companies, associations, unions, government agencies, brokers, and other sources of vital information. 2. Understanding of how to develop teamwork by assisting each other in obtaining information regarding their stated interests and goals. 3. Understanding research techniques and methods of obtaining pertinent information for current or future careers.

BUS-335: Issues in Management

In this module, adult learners examine management control functions, strategic planning, and organizational structure and design. Also studied are motivational theory and its application to individual and group functioning in work and home situations. Leadership styles related to particular circumstances are analyzed. Negotiation concepts and skills are covered through readings and class practice, with an analysis of the effect on productivity. Total Quality Management (TQM) is contrasted with Management by Objectives (MBO).

BUS-341: Accounting for Managers

This course will provide an overview of the preparation, analysis, and understanding of financial statements and how the information is also used for internal planning, control and decision-making. This course stresses the importance and usefulness of relevant accounting information and will cover such topics as financial statement presentation and analysis, costing methods, short-term and long-term decision making, budgeting, and variance analysis.

Field Period® is one of the most exciting parts of your Organizational Management  Program. Deepen your knowledge, make new connections, and sharpen your skills close to home or around the world — the choice is yours!

Like the rest of the program, it’s designed to be convenient, flexible, and able to meet your unique career goals. You’ll need to complete one Field Period® for every 30 Keuka College credits you take. You’ll work with your professors to design an experience that’s right for you. 

You can choose to complete your Field Period® a few hours each week as you progress through the program, or design an intensive experience to get your hours done all at once. Stay close to home or travel abroad — the options are limitless.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in management occupations is projected to grow 5 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations. That growth will result in more than 500,000 new jobs. The formation of new businesses and expansion of existing ones will drive employment growth, requiring more workers to manage these operations. Those in management occupations earned a median salary of $105,660 in 2019, the highest wage of all the major occupational groups. 

In New York State, the numbers are even more promising. The Department of Labor reports that management positions are projected to increase by 12.5%. Managers will earn an average salary of $157,440, a figure that rises to $200,050 with experience.
