Keuka College offers several academic programs that lead to professional licensure or certification. These programs are designed to meet the licensure and certification requirements of New York State and have been approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
Licensure and certification requirements vary from state to state and territory to territory, and many licensing boards require more than a completed degree – background checks, exams, and additional training may also apply. Because of this, students and prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact the appropriate licensing board or state agency in the location where they intend to work, to confirm the specific requirements for their profession.
Federal regulation (34 CFR 668.14 and 668.43) requires institutions to disclose whether a program leading to licensure or certification meets the educational requirements of every state and territory – not just New York. Below, you'll find that information for each of Keuka College's licensure-track programs.
This information is reviewed annually. It does not guarantee that any state board or agency will approve or deny a particular application, and while we've made a good-faith effort to stay current, state laws and regulations can change without immediate reflection here.
If you have questions about licensure for a specific program, contact the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Carol Lugg.

NYSED’s Office of Teaching Initiatives maintains additional requirements for certification beyond the completion of a program.
The College also offers an online Master of Science (M.S.) in Literacy All Grades that is designed to meet the educational requirement for initial and professional NYS certification in Literacy. Applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid New York State teacher certification at the time of enrollment.
The programs are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). AAQEP is nationally recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a programmatic accreditor for educator preparation programs.
The Teacher Education program at Keuka College is designed to specifically prepare students for certification in New York State. Keuka College is not the licensure/certification authority in the United States and cannot assess whether an individual candidate from another state or territory will be issued a license. By stating that the Keuka College program does not meet licensing requirements for a given state, this does not preclude that state's entity from ultimately approving the program, or a candidate from ultimately obtaining licensure through other means. Students should consult the Directory to State Certification linked for their state in the table below, and the relevant territorial licensing boards for specific guidance.
For questions regarding the Keuka College program or additional licensing information, students are encouraged to contact the Provost’s Office at [email protected].

Professional Licensure
Programs:
- Nursing, B.S.
- AGPCNP, M.S.
- AGPCNP, Advanced Certificate
Keuka College offers License-Qualifying Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LQBS) as well as a Master of Science and an Advanced Certificate in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP). Both the LQBS and the AGPCNP master’s degree programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), a national accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Additionally, these programs are approved and registered with the New York State Education Department (NYSED). Graduates of Keuka College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing, License-Qualifying program are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). To qualify for the exam, candidates must have completed a state approved nursing education program, which Keuka College provides. This accreditation satisfies the educational requirements to apply for licensure; however, each state and U.S. territory has specific requirements for
licensure that may include background checks, fingerprinting, verification of license and/or school attended, submission of transcripts, and other requirements that vary state to state.
Graduates of Keuka College’s Master of Science and Advanced Certification AdultGerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) are eligible to sit for the national certification exams offered by the American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC), earning the AGPCNP-BC (board-certified) credential or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
Certification Board (AANPCB), earning the A-GNP.
Because New York State is not part of the Nursing License Compact, graduates of the LQBS or the AGPCNP program must apply for licensure with the appropriate state board before practicing in another state. Keuka College is not the licensure/certification authority in the United States and cannot assess whether an individual candidate will be issued a
license/certificate. Students should consult the state and the relevant territorial licensing boards for specific guidance.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) provides detailed information for state specific licensure requirements.
The New York State Office of Professions offers additional information regarding New York State licensure for nursing. Students are encouraged to contact the Division Chair of Nursing for questions or additional information.

Professional Licensure for Occupational Therapist
Keuka College offers a five-year dual- degree program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Science and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. This program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®), which is recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist, administered by the national board for certification in occupational therapy (NBCOT®). After successful completion of this exam, the graduate will be an occupational therapist, registered (OTR). In addition, all states require licensure to practice; however, state licenses are typically based on the results of the NBCOT certification examination. This disclosure does not guarantee that a particular state or U.S. territory will approve or deny your application. A felony conviction may affect a graduate’s ability to sit for the NBCOT certification examination or attain state licensure.
Please note: While the program prepares students for licensure in all states, if may not meet licensure requirements in U.S. territories. NBCOT maintains a list of state regulatory bodies, and contact information for each state and territory’s licensing board.
The New York State Office of Professions offers additional information regarding New York State licensure for occupational therapists. For questions regarding the Keuka College program or additional licensing information, students are encouraged to contact the Provost’s Office at [email protected].
