Equity Resolution Process

The College will act on any formal or informal report or notice of violation of the policy on Equal Opportunity, Harassment and Non-discrimination, that is received by the Title IX/Equity/AA Coordinator, a member of the Equity Resolution Panel or a member of the administration, faculty or other employee.

An Equity Resolution Panel (ERP) has been formed to serve at the direction of the Title IX Coordinator, in the following roles:

  • To provide sensitive intake and initial counseling
  • To serve in a mediation or restorative justice role in conflict resolution
  • To investigate reports
  • To act as process advisors to those involved in the Equity Resolution Process
  • To serve on hearing panels
  • To serve on appeal panels

The full policy and procedure document, along with a list of the members of the Equity Resolution Panel, are available to students and employees on the KC Portal are published annually, and can be provided upon request.

Equal Opportunity Laws

Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in employment based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex against employees and students.

Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 prohibits employment discrimination against those age 40 and older. The Act also prohibits discrimination in access to programs and activities based upon age for persons age 40 and older.

The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, prohibit discrimination based on disability in employment and access to educational programs, public buildings and activities.

New York State Human Rights Law prohibits discriminating based on race, color, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, military status, disability, arrest or conviction record, and genetic predisposition in places of public accommodation, resort or amusement, in educational institutions, housing, commercial credit transaction and employment.
