Community Borrower Program

Lightner Library offers borrowing privileges to eligible members of the local community. Community members may borrow materials from the Library’s circulating collection at no cost.

How to Register

  1. Visit Lightner Library Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

  2. Bring a government-issued photo ID.

  3. See a librarian to complete your registration and receive borrowing privileges.

Registration is valid for one year. Community members in good standing may renew their borrowing privileges when their registration expires.

Borrowing Privileges

  • Borrow up to 5 items (books, DVDs, and CDs) from the circulating collection.

  • Loan period: 5 weeks (some items may circulate for a shorter period).

  • In-library use only: reference books and periodicals.

  • Community borrowers do not have access to interlibrary loan, printing, or copying services through the Library.

Please note: Items may be recalled if needed by Keuka College students or faculty.

Overdue & Replacement Policy

  • No daily fines are charged for overdue items.

  • Courtesy reminders are sent by email before and after the due date.

  • After 4 weeks overdue, unreturned items will be billed at the replacement cost plus a $25 processing fee per item.

  • Processing fees remain due even if items are later returned.

  • Borrowing privileges may be suspended or cancelled if items are not returned or fees remain unpaid.
